DÜRR Group
History
Participation in the Portugal-based company DMS - Displays & Mobility Solutions, Lda. Hence the Dürr Group is adding a strategically important component to its tunnel and traffic systems business and strengthening the traffic signs and information displays segment.
Meanwhile, the existing sites are becoming too small due to steadily growing staff numbers, so DÜRR erects a new building in Weinstadt that is to be completed in winter 2011/12.
In 2011, DUERR can win further know-how by acquiring majority shares in the Austrian start-up company evon GmbH in Stubenberg. evon develops software for all areas of industrial automation.
In 2001, Dürr gets the opportunity in Austria to hire several skilled employees. This represents the birth of the Austrian subsidiary DÜRR Austria GmbH, which has been established specifically for this occasion. Due to the rapid growth of business, its headquarters in Graz became quickly too small, so in 2006 the new office building is built with an attached production hall in Gleisdorf nearby Graz.
Due to the growing number of staff moving into a larger building is necessary. In 1989 the company moved into the newly constructed administration building with attached production hall in Dammstr. 21 in Weinstadt.
Because of the assembly works in tunnels DÜRR has for years been active in the field of traffic engineering. Thus, the traffic control system on the B27 is deemed as one of the first major projects. The necessary software in connection with the traffic control had to be outsourced for a longer time. As DÜRR can take over the employees of a bankrupt company in Kiel, the time has come to integrate also this know-how into the company and to create not only the hardware but also software control from a single source and install it. A major milestone in this context is the installation of the traffic control system on the A8 motorway (Stuttgart-Munich).
In 1984, DÜRR receives for the first time an order to equip a tunnel (Hugenwald) with electrical installations. This is the start of a new working segment of DÜRR, which now deals mainly with the electrical equipments in road tunnels. Per year a minimum of 3-4 tunnels are processed so that this segment quickly becomes the main source of revenue.
In 1983, DÜRR performs the electrical installations of the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart.
In 1977, the Mechanical Engineer Mr. Alfred Dürr, who had an office for building services engineering also before, founds the company DÜRR GmbH Elektrotechnik in Esslingen. In this company initially four employees work out building services engineering projects.
Shortly after the founding of the new company also the first electrical installations are ordered in connection with the created plans, which results in the recruitment of additional staff and expanding the company to an assembly team.
At that time, the electro-technical installations are made primarily to public buildings. Thus, various hospitals (e.g. in Bad Urach, Olga-Hospital in Stuttgart, etc.) and vocational school centers (i.a. in Reutlingen and Schorndorf) are equipped with the necessary electrical installations. DÜRR becomes also an integral partner regarding the electrical equipment of discount markets of the Schwarz-Gruppe. For the U.S. Army, DÜRR equips several locations in Saudi Arabia (i.a. a military hospital).
